This is your body this is your body on steroids

Our society is one that has grown more and more impatient in waiting for desired results. We have become a nation that craves quick fixes. Recently the increasing popularity of steroid use in sports epitomizes this desire among those who thrive to be the biggest and best.
Steroids are marketed by its peddlers as the easiest way to become the best at what you do in the sporting arena. Professional and not so professional athletes have been using different forms of steroids for a few decades now and despite the risk of scandals if exposed, they show no signs of stopping.
The Problem with Steroids
The problem with this is scandal is not the only risk steroid us poses. Steroids can reek havoc on your body to the degree where it can it be fatal. In order to understand the effect steroids can have on your body, its imperative to understand what steroids are.
What are Steroids
Steroids are drugs and like all drugs, they are illegal when not prescribed by a doctor for a legitimate reason. These drugs contain substances similar to male sex hormones including testosterone and nandrolone. Steroids can be taken by mouth or by way of injection. There are more than a dozen different kinds of steroids that are supposed to offer a variety of results.
How Do Steroids Affect the Body
The hormones in steroids cause your muscle to grow at a faster than normal pace because they direct your body to increase the proportion of calories that go towards muscle and decrease those that go to fat tissue.
The side effects of steroid use for men are many, including enhanced malepattern baldness, lowered sex drive, lessened sperm count, breast development and testicle shrinking. These result from the disturbance of the natural hormone in the body.
For women, steroid use can cause enlarged clitoris, changes in your menstrual cycle, a deeper voice, smaller breasts, malepatterned baldness and facial hair.
Other side effects of steroid use that affect either gender are acnes, cysts, cardiovascular disease, liver disease and some psychological effects.
Other Problems Caused by the Use of Steroids
For teens and people younger than age 25 who start using steroids early they can see their growth being stunted. Women who use steroids also face a greater risk as the drug seems to react more easily to the female body than the male.
Another danger faced by steroids users is that there are many fake steroids on the black market and these can ultimately cause more devastating side effects than the authentic version. In addition to all of these, using steroids is illegal. You could get fined or arrested for steroid use.
The bottom line is this: The benefits of using steroids DO NOT outweigh the risks. It is a quick fix and like most quick fixes do not work as well as they are purported to do. When it comes to being the best at what you do, nothing beats good, ol hard work.
